How do you handle people who don't seem to like you? You may say, ignore him. Or, speak to others close to the situation to clear the air about the matter. Or, confront the person and clear the matter directly. In many cases ignoring would work, but if the person continues to speak against you then this may not be the right approach.
I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to have the preeminence among them, does not receive us.
Yes, the church is filled with humans that are fallen sinners needing the continued work of God. Thankfully, we do not follow men but Jesus. Jesus never fails. John finished the letter by saying that there is much to be said but he will say it in person. This is a good leader and this approach to resolving the attitude of a poor leader is a good one.
Demetrius has a good testimony from all, and from the truth itself. And we also bear witness, and you know that our testimony is true.
There are still others with a great testimony and he is acknowledged. Let me say this. There is no perfect church. Only a perfect God and Savior. Are you following Him?
Let me finish by saying this. Many people will like you if you follow God well. But don't be surprised if there are those who hate you for this as well. God is perfect in all His ways. He loves us. Follow Him. Our responses to likes and dislikes count. Respond in a godly manner.
Father, let me not lose my focus. God is my example and model. I am not perfect but I will continue to follow Him and respond correctly.
