Boney M sang that famous song "Rivers of Babylon". I remember this song being sung over and over again during my teenage years. It was only years later that I realized that it had biblical roots. It had to do with the time of captivity of the people of Israel in Babylon and this Psalm was written to reflect that.
Psalm 137:1
By the rivers of Babylon,
There we sat down, yea, we wept
When we remembered Zion.
By the rivers of Babylon did they remember their promised land. The Psalmist is bringing back memories of Zion. Cannot be forgotten. It is the Lord's blessings that cannot be broken and cannot be forgotten. Sing the song well and overcome the temporary position of captivity. As promised by God, 70 years later, they returned to their promised land. God fulfills His promises.
Father, your promises do I trust. No other name but the name of Jesus.
Reflection from January 7, 2016:
Today is my father's funeral. Much mixed emotions. My only prayer is that he cried out to the Lord as he went. Father, bless the day for your glory.
